Pilley is a small village in the civil parish of Boldre, just east of Boldre Village. At the west end of the village is Pilley Hill, and at the east there is Bull Hill, a small hamlet within the village. Pilley is the home to the Boldre War Memorial Hall, which has a small community shop within, and an Anglican chapel dedicated to Saint Nicholas. In Pilley Hill, there is a primary school called William Gilpin, named after a local Vicar, and a pre-school next door. There is one inn in the village, named Fleur de Lys, who claim to be the oldest in the New Forest, and to have been serving drinks since 1096. As you enter, a list of landlords dating back to 1498 is viewable. To the rear of the War Memorial Hall, there is an adjacent children’s play area with swing and a wall for both ball kicking and netball practice, all of which also overlooks the Pilley Recreation Field, which has football goals and pitches.
