Hammersley Homes
Lymington based charity supporting vulnerable adults living with enduring mental ill-health
Hammersley Homes is on a terrific mission, to provide support for life for the enormous number of adults living with long term mental distress: typically living alone, or with family whose own lives are impacted and who one day won’t be there for them. Some are homeless. They're often without friends or a sense of community or purpose – vital elements of our general wellbeing.
Our Outreach Programme offers support to people referred to us by local Community Mental Health Teams, help with daily tasks they may be struggling with, including money management & budgeting, dealing with incoming mail, food & nutrition, or simply playing a game or going for a walk or a coffee. Our clients are encouraged to engage in community activities to enrich their lives, the aim being to keep them safe, amongst friends and reduce the crises which so often result from loneliness, misunderstanding and frustration.

Safety, security, comfort and friendship for people living with enduring mental ill-health.
Established in 2018 in Lymington, Hammersley Homes is a local charity with a big mission: to provide support for life, for adults suffering from enduring mental illness. Currently through our Outreach Programme, and eventually with Day Centres and fully Supported Homes for life, we work with our clients to support them to live their best life.
Following the introduction of the “Care in the Community” initiative in the 1980’s, many of the residences, homes and hospital wards which used to accommodate adults who suffered from enduring mental illness were closed, and the closures continue.
Now, all too frequently, these unfortunate and vulnerable people live alone, often confused and unable to manage; or they are homeless; or live with family who one day won’t be there for them. They live too often without friends or a sense of community, a sense of purpose – things we all need for our general wellbeing.
Hammersley Homes aims to provide long-term supported homes for this vulnerable sector, reducing their loneliness by giving them a fylly supported safe and secure home for life, a community to live in with friends, and bring some fun, meaning and purpose back into their lives.
Living in a Hammersley Homes community will introduce safety, security, routine and purpose to their lives, and keep them occupied and entertained.

The service has been ideal for patients who have been in need of an ongoing befriending type of support. Patients who like to have a friendly person to talk to on a regular basis who can also accompany them as they build confidence with everyday tasks and venture into the community
From a Community Mental Health Team manager / Solent MindIt’s not embarrassing to have someone help you go out or do ‘simple things’. Everyone needs help sometimes. You could be 27 or 57. We’re all the same inside.
From an Outreach client / Needing helpHammersley Homes has been so helpful in improving my self-confidence. Still with them, and it’s slowly getting easier to go outside and be part of the world again.
From an Outreach client / Self-confidenceI am so pleased that Hammersley Homes Outreach Support is providing my son with some much-needed company and social contact. Over the past couple of years, he has become almost completely isolated relying entirely on support from me which is not easy now that I am getting older. He looks forward to the Outreach visits and phone calls and it gives me a short but welcome break.
From an Outreach client's mother / Thank you!‘Heather is a wonder and I enjoy the visits enormously; they impact on my mental and physical health so positively. She makes me feel normal again when I go out with her’
