Description

STOP PRESS CHANGE TO THIS CONCERT

"The Queen's Six have had to cancel their appearance at the Solent Music Festival on Wednesday 21st September due to royal duties at Windsor Castle and elsewhere.

In place of this concert, we have decided to celebrate our 10th anniversary with a piano recital by our Artistic Director Sam Haywood featuring music from previous festivals and launch events. The programme will include Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata and works by Bach-Busoni, Chopin, Schumann and MacMillan. Sam has performed all over the world both as soloist and chamber musician, touring with violinist Joshua Bell for many years. He has recorded for Hyperion, Sony, Deux-Elles and has broadcast many times on BBC Radio 3.

Katherine Spencer, who recently became Principal Clarinettist of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, will be a special guest performer.

The Queen's Six was established in 2008, the 450th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth I, from whom they take their name.

Based at Windsor Castle, members of The Queen's Six make up part of the Lay Clerks of St George's Chapel, whose homes lie within the Castle walls. The Chapel Choir, which consists of boy trebles and twelve professional adult singers, performs some eight services a week, as well as at private and state occasions, often before the Royal Family. In 2018, group members' duties with the Chapel Choir included singing for the wedding of Prince Harry and Ms Meghan Markle, now The Duke and Duchess of Sussex; and in 2021, three members of the group sang at the funeral of HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh.
