Denizens of Discworld
30 Years of Paul Kidby’s Illustrations
14 January – 18 February
This unique exhibition presents a rogues’ gallery of characters from Terry Pratchett’s Discworld books, beautifully drawn and painted by Paul Kidby.
Local artist Paul began working on the series in 1993, becoming the ‘artist of choice’ for the Discworld books. He designed the Discworld book jackets from 2002 until the final volume appeared in 2015, shortly after Sir Terry’s untimely death and continues to work on new Discworld-themed publications.
The exhibition offers a new selection of works, none of them shown at St Barbe before. Many have never been publicly exhibited before, so this is a unique chance for Discworld fans to see these incredible artworks first hand. On display will be a host of favourite characters including Rincewind, Twoflower, the Librarian, Tiffany Aching, the Wee Free Men, Nanny Ogg, Conina and Errol.
Paul Kidby is one of the twelve ‘Order of the Honeybee’ to be presented, at Terry’s request, with a very special gold bee pin; as a group they are entrusted to ensure the safe future of Terry’s creation. Paul has vowed to always give his artistic best to Discworld and hopes that Terry would feel that the future illustrations for his wonderful world are in safe hands.
St Barbe is open Monday to Saturday 10am-4pm.
