Introducing Jo Hompstead and ConnectUp!
Create a pause, redefine your goals and rebuild your teams to achieve them. With the help of Jo Hompstead and ConnectUp it may all be easier than you think.
In the last few years a perfect storm was created by a combination of factors. Attitudes to work and especially the work:life balance have evolved, in ways which were beginning before the pandemic and have become more evident since the return to the workplace.
In most industry sectors recruitment is a challenge and with unemployment at its lowest in decades the competition for the best candidates is intense. Meanwhile many people have re-assessed their priorities and are no longer willing to tolerate aspects of work which previously they perhaps took for granted were non negotiable and simply had to be borne.
Right now employers need to attract the right recruits, and they also need to keep their valuable people happy and fulfilled. And there are many factors at play.
The "non-negotiable" has switched, as employers recognise the need to consider their employees' overall work experience. The theme across all sectors after a huge period of uncertainty is to take the opportunity, to design together what work needs to be like for everyone to perform at their best. It's about co-creating the future of the workplace so that people feel a part of it and invested in it.
In Jo's words:
"Imagine a workplace where everyone did their best work because they felt part of something. They understood their role in an exciting future and were dedicated to supporting their colleagues to be successful …..
That’s my mission: To enable everyone to work at their best by cultivating Connection, Meaning and Belonging at Work.
During my career, I’ve managed teams of all sorts of different people, from shop floor partners in John Lewis to delivery drivers in RDCs and Waitrose store managers with hundreds of colleagues reporting into them. I have trained senior leaders and run major change projects, redesigning ways of working from the ground up.
I know what it feels like when work fits like a glove, when your ways of working and being are in total alignment. I also know how it feels when work and life become out of step, when you don’t feel like you can be your whole self at work, and the negative impact that has on your entire life.
Work is just one part of what makes us human. We all want to work well and be part of something, but sometimes systems and organisations don’t allow that to happen. But it doesn’t have to be hard.
It is possible to make a difference to how people feel about their work. To build connected workplaces and teams, deal with broken workplace relationships and help everyone find direction and support.
With experience in a wide range of sectors, including charity, care, hospitality, events, pharmaceutical, tech and property, I deliver away days, team building events, culture resets, bespoke training, workplace mediation, one-to-one coaching and more. I am particularly passionate about having an impact on how work feels for people in my local area of the New Forest, Hampshire and the stunning south coast of England, where I am lucky enough to live."
