Lymington’s Heart of Arts Fran Perks Shares Her Passion for Local Arts & Culture

Lymington is a cultural hub, with a great museum, galleries, art, music & theatre, introduced by Fran Perks our “Heart of Arts”

Hello, I’m Fran Perks, of lymington.com & Blue Dog Art.

I’d like to introduce you to the delights of our culture, museums & art in Lymington & its local area. This is an angle of this part of the world that has until now been somewhat underplayed – largely because so many other great things go on here too! So, I’m going to become your regular conduit to the “Heart of Arts”!

In Lymington there is a superb museum & art gallery that is open all year round. St Barbe Museum & Gallery on the corner of School Lane & New Street in Lymington (link to our own promo article when it’s got a url!) . It encourages schools & young children in learning, drama & interactive programmes. It has heritage funding for wonderful art exhibitions, which interlinks with artists & art foundations all over England, & displays magnificent works of art in spectacular gallery exhibitions. It sponsors a small open exhibition & selling gallery for independent & new art throughout the New Forest. & its Friends host many happy & interesting events & lectures.

In Lyndhurst there is another exhibition Centre, aided by the Council that shows a wonderful variety of art available in the New Forest. We could go on – but our focus is on Lymington.

We are going to feature artists, places, history & culture on an on-going basis for you to become a little more familiar with art here.

Personally, I am privileged to network with artists, painters & crafters, photographers, textile artists, quilters, jewellery makers, & potters, (it’s hard to categorise an artist)! & I work with shops & galleries & promoters of art. Together we aim to promote Lymington as an important arts centre, indeed a hub, a hive of activity.

This year, between March & November, “Blue Dog Art” & our artists are going to “squat” in underused High Street vacant shops with pop up art exhibitions! We are delighted to announce that we will also be “popping up” with selling exhibitions in coffee shops, Churches, pubs (anyone see the incongruity there?!) & the Community Centre on a roll over basis, sometimes a day here, a week there.

We are excited to be working with schools & colleges to display new & emerging talent among the younger generation, as well as art & talent from established & well known artists.

We are so thrilled to be sharing events, exhibitions, workshops, markets & festivals with you, with our artists & our sponsors!

Contact us if you have an event you wish to share either at lymington.com or bluedogart.co.uk.

And we are always looking for sponsorship; for prizes for events, & volunteers to help us! Again, please contact us if you are interested. (Don’t be left out in the cold!)
