November Newsletter
This week's is the first and last full 'Weekly What's On' newsletter for November. While I'm gallivanting off grid do remember that you can always view the full Events Calendar, where newly added events will be published as and when I can get online. If you just want to keep track of Christmas Events, https://lymington.com/christmas-events will take you straight there. I'll also aim to send an updated diary of events later in the month.
So now, first news from Scott Bailey and New Forest Escapes, then on to some tempting Christmas Treats (like Forest Fizz Festive Afternoon Tea!) at the Montagu Arms and Careys Manor Hotel & SenSpa, to plan now and anticipate over the next few weeks as we build up to the start of the Sparkly Season!

Pruning, Lopping, Felling - Is It Allowed?
Living in Lymington and the wider New Forest means being surrounded by beautiful, established trees. They frame our streets, shape our gardens and give the area much of its character. But what happens when a tree in your garden starts causing problems?
It might be blocking light, dropping debris into the guttering, lifting paving slabs or simply looking past its best. Cutting it back, or cutting it down, seems like a relatively straightforward decision – especially if the tree is on land you own. But in reality, it’s often not that simple.
After the first storms of autumn this month's article from Scott Bailey Solicitors is timely. It gives you the lowdown about Tree Preservation Orders including within conservation areas, how to check whether your tree has a TPO, and valid reasons for removal or significant pruning. Even where a tree poses a risk, carrying out work without consent can still amount to a criminal offence so it's definitely worth reading this article!
(I have current experience of this subject after the storm damage two weeks ago...my poplars were allowed fast track permission for 'pollarding'. Having now provided woodchip and firewood for a couple of years hence, they will hopefully start to sprout again next year, too. A kind of win win!)

New Forest Escapes introduces...
Efford Park Manor
New Forest Escapes, the independent holiday letting agency based in Lymington, manages a carefully selected collection of holiday properties across the New Forest, from boutique town centre apartments to large country estates.
The recent inclusion in its portfolio of Efford Park Manor, a magnificent Georgian estate set within more than 100 acres of private grounds, is a major coup for the agency!
With 13 bedrooms sleeping up to 25 adults, elegant dining room that seats 42, pool, hot tub, eight-person sauna, well-equipped gym, cinema room, billiards room and tennis court, this fabulous venue offers a remarkable setting also for milestone celebrations and weddings, corporate retreats and conferences.
As demand for self catering holidays in the New Forest continues to grow, if you own a local property (of any size!) and are considering holiday letting, the team would love to hear from you.

Christmas Events to Book and Gift Vouchers to Buy, Now!
At The Montagu Arms in Beaulieu, the sparkly season begins with Monty's Sip & Graze on Saturday 28 November, followed by Forest Fizz Festive Afternoon Tea on Sunday 13 December.
Montagu Arms gift vouchers are a clever choice for a Christmas present: they give at least twice with first something special to look forward to and then a big treat to enjoy at leisure. There are vouchers for Afternoon Tea, Dinner, Lunch, a Hotel Stay, and for a simple monetary gift. Read more here...
And whether you're planning festive treats or perfect presents, why not take time out to consider the options in comfort, with a night's stay and breakfast in bed at the hotel!

Gather, Make & Celebrate: Christmas at Careys Manor
Some of the nicest moments of Christmas happen before the day itself. The first mince pie, an afternoon spent making something by hand, or the annual gathering that finally makes it out of the group chat.
At Careys Manor Hotel & SenSpa in Brockenhurst, this year’s Christmas calendar makes room for all three. From festive afternoon tea (there's nothing quite like a spot of festive fizz to enhance that already delightful experience to a new level!) to wreath making and evenings on the dance floor, there are plenty of reasons to bring your favourite people together this Christmas. Read on to discover them all!

In tune with the changing season, the trees in the New Forest are turning the most fabulous autumnal colours. November weather lore collected across English and American farm almanacs includes: "If there be ice in November that will bear a duck, there will be nothing thereafter but sleet and muck." Hmm, make the most of this month!
Best wishes Jane
