Let there be even more light!

Promising news for travellers by train between Lymington and Brockenhurst - better lighting for Lymington Town Railway Station

Lymington Town Railway StationPlans have been unveiled, to upgrade the lighting at Lymington Town railway station: South Western Railway (SWR) has submitted an application to replace the lights with LED versions.

Which if granted, will include the public areas including the car park - and thus shine welcome additional light in currently dark places, on long autumn and winter nights! (For the relevance of this comment go to our Weekly What's On sign up page and read this week's newsletter - all issues are listed in date order from the most recent!)

SWR's application says: "The main principle is to replace the lighting on a like for like basis using the existing electrical wiring and luminaires. Every effort has been made to provide the requirements of the project while respecting the existing listed building."

A reminder how lucky we are in Lymington to have this fabulous and scenic railway service between Lymington and Brockenhurst, which as well as providing convenient transportation for Brockenhurst College students and others who need to travel between the two towns, also connects usually very efficiently with the main line and fast trains between Weymouth and Waterloo.

Some facts about the station

Lymington Town railway station was opened in 1860 and is a Grade II-listed building. The station is 97 miles 57 chains down the line from London Waterloo and is the only intermediate station on the Lymington Branch Line from Brockenhurst. Celebrations were held at Lymington Town in 2008 to mark the 150th anniversary of the line.
