1950’s BBQ proves a hit at Lymington's Court Lodge care home
Fun and laughter at Colten Care home, where 4 for 3 offer continues all summer for short stay breaks!
A summer barbecue with a 1950’s theme proved a real hit at Colten Care's Court Lodge care home in Lymington.
Staff dressed in period costume, while musical due Leslie and Bob played a selection of hits from the era. Residents, family and friends tucked into a large barbecue selection, surrounded by long playing records which had been hung from bunting.
A raffle raised £79 for Lymington Cat and Kitten Rescue.
The BBQ was one of many annual events around the New Forest area at Colten Care homes this summer that are open to the local community as well as residents, their familes and friends.
Sheeja Lolamony, Home Manager, said: “We always have a fun time at our annual barbecue and this year was no exception. It was a great success and enjoyed by all but especially our residents. Some even got up and danced to the music they remembered, and loved, so much.
“We have a beautiful garden and, together with the perfect weather, the barbecue really showed off her happy home in the best possible light.”
The next New Forest Colten Care open event is a Country & Western BBQ at Woodpecker's in Brockenhurst on Friday 16 August.
In addition, other regular events open to those in the local community include 'Come Dine with Us' every Wednesday at Belmore Lodge - come and join the residents for a sociable lunch (booking essential!). Ladies, on the first Wednesday of each month join the residents at Court Lodge for Ladies' Afternoon Tea and gentlemen, come along to the Gentlemen's Lunch Club, also at Court Lodge on the first and third Tuesdays of each month.
All these events provide an excellent opportunity for people in the local community, who might be lonely or considering whether they should make a move to a care home one day, to come along and make new friends whilst experiencing the fun atmosphere at Colten Care's homes.

Caring for a loved one can be demanding and stressful, both emotionally and physically. We all deserve an occasional break from our responsibilities – and that’s where a respite stay in a beautiful, welcoming care home comes in. You may well associate care homes with long-term care, but there are many reasons why shorter stays are attractive as well.
People on discharge from hospital often require additional care to start their recuperation. Meanwhile some individuals or families want to try out a care home before making a longer-term commitment to move in permenantly.
