Spring events in the New Forest area
Sunday 3 March 2019: Oakhaven Half Marathon
The Oakhaven Half Marathon is a great day out for competitors of all levels. The date just a few weeks before the London Marathon lends itself nicely to a spring marathon buildup. It's a scenic circular route to the east of Brockenhurst, off road and entirely traffic free but mainly on firm tracks and reasonably flat. Unfortunately last year's race day was snowy and postponed until November - fingers crossed for warmer weather this year! Sunday 7 April 2019: Bournemouth Bay Run
An easy reach from the New Forest and set against the backdop of Bournemouth's famous seven-mile stretch of golden sand, this is a super day out, whatever your running ability. Choose from a variety of distances and enjoy the fantastic views as you walk, jog or run...
Saturday 13 - Sunday 14 April 2019: New Forest Spring Sportive
Starting and finishing at Somerley House in Ringwood, this is one of the new season’s earliest cycle rides. Whether you cycle the 'Epic' 81 mile route, 'Standard' 67 miles or 'Short' 30 miles, you'll take in wonderful views of the New Forest and have a number of hills to challenge your legs!
Saturday 11 - Sunday 12 May 2019: Christchurch Food Festival
Christchurch High Street is transformed with stalls selling and showcasing local delicacies, whilst on the picturesque riverside setting of Christchurch Quay you'll find free-to-view cookery demonstrations, a beer festival, fabulous cocktails, Kids Kitchen and excellent entertainment.
Sunday 12 May 2019: Lymington Lifeboat 10k and children's fun runs.
Now in its 18th year the Lymington 10K race takes place in the beautiful coastal location of Lymington, starting and finishing at Woodside Park. This fantastic event is well supported by the Lymington community, with runners of all ages and abilities participating - and all for an excellent cause, supporting the Lymington Lifeboat. As well as the main race there are a series of children's fun runs, introducing children of all ages to the joy of running.
Saturday 18 May 2019: Oakhaven Hospice to Hospice walk
Walk a marathon (or half marathon) with spectacular views in aid of two local hospices! You can choose to walk from either the Lewis-Manning Hospice in Poole to Oakhaven Hospice in Lymington or start at Oakhaven and walk to Lewis-Manning. The distance around the beautiful sea front coastal path is 26.2 miles, much of it flat. There is also the option to start at Mudeford and walk 13 miles to either hospice.
Saturday 18 - Sunday 19 May 2019: Dogstival
New for 2019! Dogstival is an exciting new event for dogs and dog lovers hosted by Chris Packham at Pylewell Park Estate in the heart of the New Forest, which over the last 5 years has been the spectacular location of the Curious Arts Festival. This magnificent private stately home boasts over 260 acres, lakes and even its own beach! The weekend promises to be packed full of the most exciting activities, retailers, music, and food and drink for families and most importantly their dogs. If a dog could have the best day of it's life... it would go to Dogstival!
Summer events in the New Forest area
Saturday 1 - Sunday 2 June 2019: Highcliffe Food & Arts Festival
Arts have now been added to the Highcliffe Food Festival, with plans to blend the traditional street traders and entertainment, lots of new initiatives, including a stylish craft marquee, a Sheep Show and many more activities for children.
Sunday 2 June 2019: New Forest Triathlon
Based at Moyles Court School for parking, transition and finish, with the swim taking place in nearby Ellingham Lake. The cycle takes in part of the northern New Forest, all road based. A sprint/novice option is available.
Friday 7 - Sunday 9 June 2019: Poole Harbour Boat Show
The 5th annual Poole Harbour Boat Show at Poole Quay and now an established event in the boating calendar, bringing together a spectacular showcase of celebrity style yachts and motor cruisers, tall ships, marine equipment, water sports gear and clothing, with ‘Try a Boat’ taster sessions, as well as a programme of free family entertainment including live music and fireworks on Friday and Saturday evening.
Friday 7 - Sunday 9 June 2019: Hurst Dubfest
Three days of live music and events at Hurst View caravan park, set near the sea in Lymington, with magnificent views across the western Solent to the Isle of Wight. A family friendly and fun filled festival with a laid back atmosphere and plenty of VW campers to admire!
Saturday 8 - Sunday 16 June 2019: New Forest Film Festival
An exciting new festival is being organised for 2019 - a 9 day celebration of film in the New Forest! Although full details are yet to be finalised, the festival will celebrate films with a New Forest connection, our amazing local creative talent, the variety of venues screening films and the diverse filming locations offered by the New Forest.
Sunday 16 June 2019: Hot Rod and Custom Drive In Day at Beaulieu
A great day out for Father's Day! Dad will love the colourful display of hundreds of custom cars and motorcycles, plus with the Vintage Village, dancing and live entertainment there will be something for all the family to enjoy. Entry tickets also include entry to the Beaulieu attraction, including Palace House, Beaulieu Abbey, World of Top Gear and the world-famous National Motor Museum.
Saturday 21 - Sunday 22 June 2019: Lymington Stomp
Lymingtons very own music, arts and craft festival combining local bands, arts, crafts, food and entertainment for a wonderful two day festival near the Lymington River. Camping is possible - as well as glamping and even B&B options. Early bird tickets available, children aged under 5 go free!
Saturday 29 June 2019: Round The Island Race
The annual Round the Island Race, organised by the Island Sailing Club, is a one-day yacht race around the Isle of Wight that regularly attracts over 1,600 boats and around 16,000 sailors, making it one of the largests yacht races in the world and the fourth largest participation sporting event in the UK. It is quite an amazing race to watch from the Lymington-Keyhaven Solent Way path (sea wall) and from Hurst Spit. Definitely worth getting up early for a walk!
Saturday 29 June 2019: Brewin Dolphin New Forest Summer Sportive
The second New Forest 'sportive' cycle event of the year, this time starting and finishing at Gang Warily Recreation Centre in Fawley. Choose from the 'Epic' 81 mile route, 'Standard' 67 miles or 'Short' 30 miles, and experience wonderful views of the New Forest!
Sunday 7 July 2019: Lymington Italia Festival
A well established and hugely popular event where Ferrari cars and their owners arrive into Lymington and follow a route around the town. The event begins at the Lymington Yacht Haven where Ferraris arrive in spectacular fashion. They then drive into Lymington High Street by police escort and park up for close up viewing during the afternoon. An Italian market along the High Street sells food, drink, ice-creams and leather goods, giving a day's entertainment for the whole family.
Saturday 6 July 2019: Smoked & Uncut at The Pig
A buzzing celebration of music and food in the grounds of this leading boutique hotel and restaurant in Brockenhurst. This year's line up will be announced in the spring. The most distinctive feature of the Smoked & Uncut festivals is the uncompromising quality - everything is of top-notch quality and the relaxed atmosphere makes it a great choice for everyone, whether it be couples, groups of friends or families.
Wednesday 3 - Sunday 7 July 2019: New Forest Folk Festival
This family run festival at Powells farm at Plaitford near Romsey has oodles of live music, events and workshops. The farm is surrounded by trees and is almost flat with a gentle slope down to the stage and stream that runs through the centre of the farm. Visit for the day or the whole weekend - camping is possible in one of the fields.
Sunday 21 July 2019: Lymington Carnival
Many local groups and organisations participate in the Lymington Carnival procession around the town, which is followed by a family fete with plenty of live entertainment. There is something for everyone, from fair ground rides, bouncy castles and face painting to local craft stalls and a dog show.
Saturday 27 July 2019: Smoked & Uncut at Lime Wood
The second of the local Smoked & Uncut events, this time in the grounds of five-star hotel Lime Wood. Gourmet food, top-notch music, local ales and refreshing cocktails in the heart of the New Forest. This year's line up will be announced in the spring.
Friday 26 - Sunday 28 July 2019: Netley Marsh Steam and Craft Show
One of the biggest steam shows in the South, with a huge range of features, stalls and attractions including those much-loved steam engines, motorcycles and cars. Live music, beer tent or two and an abundance of delicious food on offer as well as stalls and obligatory funfair rides.
Tuesday 30 July - Thursday 1 August 2019: New Forest & Hampshire County Show
The New Forest Show is a fabulous day out and has been running since 1921. It raises money for New Forest Agricultural Show Society and other local and national charitable organisations. The show attracts over 100,000 visitors every year and brings together a celebration of traditional country pursuits, crafts, produce and entertainment. Show jumping is another major feature at the show and there are competitive classes throughout all three days. A full range of equestrian classes also features, as well as livestock competitions including pigs, cattle and sheep, plus a poultry section, rabbits, cage birds, and honey bees.
Saturday 3 - Sunday 4 August 2019: Beaulieu Supercar Weekend
A fabulous family spectacular that brings some of the world’s most exclusive and desirable cars to Beaulieu. See displays of prestigious supercars and hear their distinctive engine notes as they unleash their horsepower on the demonstration run. The Supercar Weekend is a must for all supercar enthusiasts, providing an opportunity to get almost close enough to touch these impressive motors! Tickets include entry to the Beaulieu attraction, including the National Motor Museum, Palace House, Beaulieu Abbey and World of Top Gear.
Sunday 4 August 2019: Lymington Summer Spectacular
The Rotary Club of Lymington hosts an annual fun day at Woodside Park with an impressive classic car show. A great family day out with funds raised supporting local charities and causes.
Saturday 10 - Saturday 17 August 2019: Lendy Cowes Week
Cowes Week is one of the UK's longest running and most successful sporting events and is a key highlight of the British sporting summer. It has been held in early August every year since 1826, except during the two world wars. Around 8,000 competitors now participate, ranging from Olympic and world class yachtsmen to weekend sailors. The spectacle that the racing provides, together with the vibrant festival atmosphere attracts over 100,000 visitors to Cowes during the event.
Saturday 10 - Sunday 11 August 2019: Lymington Seafood Festival
The inaugural Lymington Seafood Festival in 2017 was hugely popular and this year's promises to be bigger and even better! Located in Bath Road park, the seafood festival celebrates Lymington and the New Forest's rich cultural heritage, regional producers and links to the sea.
Saturday 10 - Sunday 11 August 2019: New Forest Fairy Festival
A fun and bewitching festival for all ages! Fairy wings, pointy ears and elf costumes for wannabe fairies, elves and pixie folk. Or, just come as you are and smile at the outfits! Music, workshops, a healing zone, magical stalls, food and lots more including a fairy dog show, all with a magical theme – watch out for the sprinkling of magic fairy dust!
Saturday 10 August 2019: The Ellingham & Ringwood Agricultural Society Annual Show
Show jumping, agricultural shows, collections and displays for all ages and interests revealing how locals live the rural life in this beautiful pocket of the south coast. You’ll find plenty of opportunities to purchase handicrafts, home-made produce and, of course, there will be a beer tent and plenty of live music.
Friday 22 - Monday 26 August 2019: Great Dorset Steam Fair
This is the 50th year of the Great Dorset Steam Fair, which covers 600 acres and is now widely recognised as one the leading heritage shows in the World. The Fair is a great family experience, with something for everyone. Discover how people lived, worked and played in bygone years, see the heavy horses and the incredible collections of steam machinery.
Thursday 29 August - Sunday 1 September 2019: Bournemouth Air Festival
The UK's biggest air festival, 4-days of action and entertainment in the air, on land and at sea! Award-winning and internationally renowned, the Bournemouth Air Festival has entertained more than 8.5 million people since 2008. Setting Bournemouth aside from other air shows, when the sun goes down, Night Air entertainment lights up the skies of the UK’s leading coastal resort with pyrotechnic night flying, street entertainment, awesome live music and military performances. A free to attend event, the Bournemouth Air Festival is so much more than an air show!
Autumn events in the New Forest area
Saturday 7 - Sunday 8 September 2019: Beaulieu International Autojumble
The double-award winning International Autojumble at Beaulieu is the biggest outdoor sale of motoring items this side of the Atlantic. Regarded as the place to locate and purchase even the most elusive motoring parts, accessories, automobilia, literature, tools and clothing. There is something for everyone - and plenty of bargains to be had! Tickets also include entry to the Beaulieu attraction, including the National Motor Museum, Palace House, Beaulieu Abbey and World of Top Gear.
Sunday 8 September 2019: New Forest Marathon
The annual New Forest Marathon is more than just a marathon, with full and half marathons, 10k, 5k, junior race and woodland walk. There's a children's activity area, live music, F1 car, food and drink, camping and picnic area. The Race Village opens at 6am at New Park Farm Showground, Brockenhurst and there are generally road closures in the area so check the route beforehand if travelling in the area.
Friday 13 - Sunday 22 September 2019: Southampton Boat Show
Britain’s biggest and best festival of boating showcases a plethora of beautifully designed boats and products from over 600 global marine brands. The finest yachts with the ultimate onboard technology, float comfortably alongside kayaks, paddleboard and sailing dinghies. Whether you're buying or just looking, it is a great day out!
Saturday 14 September 2019: The Romsey Show
The Romsey Show is one of the oldest and largest one-day shows in England, where town and country meet with the best of British farming, countryside activities and award-winning local produce.
Monday 16 - Sunday 22 September 2019: Solent Music Festival
The Solent Music Festival will return to Lymington for a seveth year, with world class classical music performances. The 2018 line up included The Four Seasons, The Harmonious Blacksmith, The Shepherd on the Rock and much more. Michael Portillo shared his Desert Island Discs and acclaimed worldwide cellist Steven Isserlis led a stunning finale. The line up for 2019 has yet to be announced.
Sunday 29 September - Sunday 6 October 2019: Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival
Every Autumn, Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival brings intriguing, spectacular and down-right curious arts experiences to Bournemouth, with over 60 events – a spirited mix of some of the best regional, national and international arts across dance, film, music, visual art, literature, theatre and comedy.
12-27 October 2019: New Forest Walking Festival
The New Forest Walking Festival boasts dozens of guided walks led by knowledgeable local experts to help you discover more about the history, heritage and wildlife of the Forest. With 80+ behind the scenes family strolls, history hikes, wildlife walks and more led by the New Forest National Park Authority and partner organisations, you'll soon learn more about the National Park and the flora and fauna within it.
Friday 25 - Saturday 26 October 2019: Oktoberfest Southampton
Oktoberfest is coming to Southampton! Expect traditional Bavarian drinks, food and LIVE Oompah bands at Mayflower Park.
Saturday 26 October 2019: Beaulieu Fireworks
Celebrating 50 years since the moon landing, this year's fireworks display at Beaulieu promises to be 'out of this world'! One of the largest firework displays in the South, choreographed to music with a range of entertainment for the whole family. Arrive early to enjoy the attractions of Beaulieu, enjoy live entertainment and have fun on old time fairground rides (extra charge applies).
