Venue: Brockenhurst Village Hall
Brockenhurst reaches for the skies to support hospices at ‘Big Brock Gig’
A group of fundraising friends are scaling new heights with a gig in aid of two hospices.
The Big Brock Gig at Brockenhurst Village Hall on Saturday 19 October features three live bands followed by a set from DJ Haus.
Foxtrot Oscar has been formed by one of the event organisers Ros Rea especially for the Big Brock Gig and she called on friends and colleagues from the aviation industry to help. The band features two pilots, two air traffic controllers and one air traffic control engineer. They play popular covers with a rocky edge.
Two Step Fire is an established local rock two-piece, where vintage guitar meets drums to make original, catchy story-telling songs.
Within the cattlegrids, within the heart of the New Forest, lurks a small gang of friends armed with guitars, keyboards, voices and beats to form the Kings of the Cattlegrids who have played a number of local gigs.
The group of around 20 fundraising friends first came together with a gig night in 2016 and raised over £6,000 at a sell-out event in aid of the Nepal Earthquake Appeal. They’re hoping to smash their last total this time and again fill out the Village Hall to capacity.
All proceeds will go to Oakhaven Hospice in Lymington and Rainbow Children’s Hospice in Loughborough, which the friends have been supporting for a number of years.
Ros said: ‘All of us have known someone who has received amazing care from the hospices so we thought it was time to give something back to them. It promises to be a great night and we know the local community will turn out to support such a worthwhile cause.’
Doors open at 7pm for happy hour and there will be prizes to be won, plus a bar with real ale on sale.
Local businesses are rallying around the fundraiser with the Foresters Arms in Brockenhurst donating barrels of beer and other businesses giving prizes.
Tickets are £10 and available at www.bigbrockgig.com or from Brockenhurst Village Hall.
For anyone unable to attend, donations are also being welcomed on the website.
