Dazzle: Disguise and Disruption in War and Art

Galleries and Exhibitions
Date: Saturday, 16 June - Sunday, 23 September

Venue: St Barbe Museum + Art Gallery

Dazzle tells the fasinating story of how the use of patterning on warships was introduced in the First World War to confuse the U-Boat commanders as to the speed and direction of the vessels.

This unique exhibition, by the St Barbe curators with James Taylor, brings together stunning artwork from The Imperial War Museum, National Maritime Museum and British Museum as well as regional and private collections.

Dazzle was opened by Paul Atterbury of BBC Antiques Road Show who said "It is extraordinary that so important a story, in which the very future of Britain hung in the balance, has until now not been told. National galleries and museums in London and elsewhere have certainly missed a trick by ignoring this great story."
