Spring events in Lymington, the New Forest and surrounding areas
New date TBC: Oakhaven Half Marathon
The Oakhaven Half Marathon is a great day out for competitors of all levels. The date just a few weeks before the London Marathon lends itself nicely to a spring marathon buildup. It's a scenic circular route to the east of Brockenhurst, off road and entirely traffic free but mainly on firm tracks and reasonably flat.
Guinness World Record Breaking Jude Massey and Greg Bailey - the Ocean Brothers - will be rowing home to Lymington on Good Friday, 30th March 2018. They will be followed down the Lymington River by a flotilla of boats, celebrating their success in rowing unsupported across the Atlantic Ocean. Jude is now the youngest person to have rowed any ocean as a pair. Read more about the Ocean Brothers' row here.
15 April: Oakhaven Quacky Races
Oakhaven Hospice is holding its second Quacky Races event on Sunday 15th April at Lymington Sea Water Baths. Ducks can be purchased before the event but will also be available to purchase on the day. This is an event for the whole family and there will be ice creams, tea and coffee and cake for sale for you to enjoy. Prizes for the first five ducks across the finishing line. Come and join in the fun and cheer your duck on!
26 April: Oakhaven Fire and Ice Walk
A new challenge comes to Lymington in 2018! Walk barefoot across hot burning coals or stride confidently over the broken glass ice - or both! Guests are welcome to come along and support the walkers, the evening will end with supper and a celebration of your achievements.
6 May: Oakhaven Colour Run
Join in the paint party in Brockenhurst, dressed in a white t-shirt where you will run, jog or walk through the colour stations that will shower you in clouds of brightly coloured powder paint. Don’t worry - the paint is non-toxic, safe and biodegradable, although sunglasses and a closed mouth are both recommended! If not participating this is a fantastic - and hilarious - event to watch!
12 May: Oakhaven Hospice to Hospice walk.
Walk from either the Lewis-Manning Hospice in Poole to Oakhaven Hospice in Lymington or start at Oakhaven and walk to Lewis-Manning. The distance around the beautiful sea front coastal path is 26.2 miles, much of it flat. There is also the option to start at Mudeford and walk 13 miles to either hospice.
Now in its 17th year the Lymington 10K race takes place in the beautiful coastal location of Lymington starting and finishing at Woodside Park. This fantastic event is well supported by the Lymington community, with runners of all ages and abilities participating - and all for an excellent cause, supporting the Lymington Lifeboat. As well as the main race there are a series of children's fun runs, introducing children of all ages to the joy of running.
Summer EVENTS IN LYMINGTON, THE NEW FOREST AND SURROUNDING AREAS
June - July 2018: Artisans by the River
For six consecutive summer Sundays in Lymington, local artisans, musicians and crafters gather together at Bath Road Park by the Lymington River to share their trade, and entice the public to enjoy something different. Including something for everybody including the little ones with children's playground and lots of entertainment. There will be music in the Pavilion, enticing food stalls and art galore!
8 - 10 June 2018: Hurst Dubfest
Three days of live music and events at Hurst View caravan park in Lymington.
15-24 June 2018: Bournemouth Food and Drink Festival
Enjoy good food, amazing cooking skills and fabulous entertainment in various locations around central Bournemouth, with cookery displays, cocktail masterclasses, street food festival, demo kitchen, People's Cook Off Challenge and kids kitchen.
1 July 2018: Lymington Italia Festival
A now well established and hugely popular event where Ferrari cars and their owners arrive into Lymington and follow a route the town. The event begins at the Lymington Yacht Haven where Ferraris will begin to arrive in spectacular fashion. They then drive into Lymington High Street by police escort and park up for close up viewing during the afternoon. An Italian market along the High Street sells food, drink, ice-creams and leather goods, giving a day's entertainment for the whole family.
4-8 July 2018: New Forest Folk Festival
A family run festival at Powells farm at Plaitford near Romsey, with live music, events and workshops. The farm is surrounded by trees and is almost flat with a gentle slope down to the stage and stream that runs through the centre of the farm. Visit for the day or the whole weekend: camping is possible in one of the fields.
7 July 2018: Round The Island Race
The annual Round the Island Race, organised by the Island Sailing Club, is a one-day yacht race around the Isle of Wight that regularly attracts over 1,600 boats and around 16,000 sailors, making it one of the largests yacht races in the world and the fourth largest participation sporting event in the UK. It is quite an amazing race to watch from the Lymington-Keyhaven Solent Way path (sea wall) and from Hurst Spit. Definitely worth getting up early for a walk!
15 July 2018: Lymington Carnival
Many local groups and organisations participate in the Lymington Carnival procession, which is followed by a family fete with plenty of Live Entertainment. There is something for everyone, from fair ground rides, bouncy castles and face painting to local craft stalls and a dog show.
21-23 July 2018: Curious Arts Festival
Curious is a festival like no other. Taking place in the breathtaking grounds of Pylewell Park in the heart of the New Forest, it is dreamy, eccentric, fun and ultimately, irresistible. It’s very English on the one hand – expect fabulous novelists, exceptional historians, poet laureates, dogs on leads, gin and tonics, and sitting on a deckchair with a view of the Solent, although you are just as likely to find yourself on a secret midnight bat-walk, betting your life-savings on the snail-racing, reciting a sonnet on top of an elegantly restored old route-master, laughing out loud to mesmerising stand-up comedy, or listening to some of the UK’s most exciting musicians. Visit for the day, the evening or for the whole weekend: camping is possible.
24-26 July 2018: New Forest Show
The New Forest Show is a fabulous day out and has been running since 1921. It raises money for New Forest Agricultural Show Society and other local and national charitable organisations. The show attracts over 100,000 visitors every year and brings together a celebration of traditional country pursuits, crafts, produce and entertainment. Show jumping is another major feature at the show and there are competitive classes throughout all three days. A full range of equestrian classes also features, as well as livestock competitions including pigs, cattle and sheep, plus a poultry section, rabbits, cage birds, and honey bees. This year the show will also incorporate the New Forest Business Show.
4-11 August 2018: Cowes Week
Cowes Week is one of the UK's longest running and most successful sporting events and is a key highlight of the British sporting summer. It has been held in early August every year since 1826, except during the two world wars. Around 8,000 competitors now participate, ranging from Olympic and world class yachtsmen to weekend sailors. The spectacle that the racing provides, together with the vibrant festival atmosphere attracts over 100,000 visitors to Cowes during the event.
5 August 2018: Lymington Summer Spectacular
The Rotary Club of Lymington host an annual fun day at Woodside Park with classic car show. A great family day out with funds raised supporting local charities and causes.
11-12 August 2018: Lymington Seafood Festival
The inaugural Lymington Seafood Festival in 2017 was hugely popular and this year's promises to be bigger and even better! Located in Bath Road park, the seafood festival celebrates Lymington and the New Forest's rich cultural heritage, regional producers and links to the sea.
23-27 August 2018: Great Dorset Steam Fair
Its the 50th year of the Great Dorset Steam Fair, which covers 600 acres and is now widely recognised as one the leading heritage shows in the World. The Fair is a great family experience, with something for everyone. Discover how people lived, worked and played in bygone years, see the heavy horses and the incredible collections of steam machinery.
30 August - 2 September 2018: Bournemouth Air Festival
The UK's biggest air festival, 4-days of action and entertainment in the air, on land and at sea! Award-winning and internationally renowned, the Bournemouth Air Festival has entertained more than 8.5 million people since 2008. Setting Bournemouth aside from other air shows, when the sun goes down, Night Air entertainment lights up the skies of the UK’s leading coastal resort with pyrotechnic night flying, street entertainment, awesome live music and military performances. A free to attend event, the Bournemouth Air Festival is so much more than an air show!
Autumn EVENTS IN LYMINGTON, THE NEW FOREST AND SURROUNDING AREAS
8 September 2018: The Romsey Show
The Romsey Show is one of the oldest and largest one-day shows in England, where town and country meet with the best of British farming, countryside activities and award-winning local produce.
9 September 2018: New Forest Marathon
The annual New Forest Marathon is more than just a marathon, with full and half marathons, 10k, 5k, junior race and woodland walk. There's a children's activity area, live music, F1 car, food and drink, camping and picnic area. The Race Village opens at 6am at New Park Farm Showground, Brockenhurst and there are generally road closures in the area so check the route beforehand if travelling in the area.
29 September - 6 October 2018: Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival
Every Autumn, Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival brings intriguing, spectacular and down-right curious arts experiences to Bournemouth, with over 60 events – a spirited mix of some of the best regional, national and international arts across dance, film, music, visual art, literature, theatre and comedy.
13-28 October 2018: New Forest Walking Festival
The New Forest Walking Festival boasts dozens of guided walks led by knowledgeable local experts to help you discover more about the history, heritage and wildlife of the Forest. The 2017 Festival saw 1,500 people enjoy 75 behind the scenes family strolls, history hikes, wildlife walks and more. All walks were expert-led by the New Forest National Park Authority and partner organisations, helping people learn more about the National Park.
