We are really looking forward to re-opening our doors on Monday 17 May, join us to relax and feed your creative soul by dropping in to see our St Barbe Open. The 2021 exhibition features artworks ranging from vibrant paintings in oil and acrylic to jewel-like prints, quirky sculpture and sumptuous textiles. Much of the artwork is for sale, so take the opportunity to buy some high-quality affordable art and support local artists.
The St Barbe exhibition includes the Young Artist’s Open which encourages young artists to get creative from their earliest years. Without a theme their imagination has run wild resulting in a fabulous variety of original artwork. They can even win a prize! Long-time St Barbe supporter Gordon Young has generously offered four ‘Ted Marsh Awards’ in cash and artists materials in memory of the museum’s founding chairman.
The judges also award adult prizes which are generously sponsored by our supporters. This year there was fierce competition with over 400 artworks from across Hampshire, Dorset and beyond. The prizes were awarded to Amanda Burnie - The Mary and John Symons Memorial Award for best print, Hannya Robinson - The Beaulieu Fine Arts Award for best work by a non-professional artist, Jennifer Gregorace - The Coastal Gallery Award for best contemporary abstract work and Fleur Webb.
Before lockdown, we all took our freedom for granted. Imagine how wonderful it will feel to do something as simple as looking an inspiring exhibition followed by relaxing on our terrace and enjoying coffee or lunch from our Old School Café in the sunshine? See you soon!
