    Get creative in and around Lymington!

    • Painted Easter eggs in a basketBeach Huts n Boats have a Pyrography workshop on Wednesday 12th April, discover drawing and writing with fire!
    • Fun craft activities at Fairweather's Patrick's Patch on Thursday 13th April. Make and decorate your own Easter tree: 10am, 11.30am or 1pm. Booking essential.
    • Lymington Library have a Construction and Coding session on Saturday 8th April as part of the BBC's Get Creative weekend.
    • Lymington Library are also holding an Easter Crafts session for children aged 3+ and their parents/carers on 12th April.
    • Priestlands School Easter Activities are taking place from 10th to 12th April and include a Pokémon workshop, Harry Potter workshop, Easter crafts, First Forest Footsteps and a guitar workshop.
    • Forest Arts are holding a number of craft workshops themed around Zootropolis on Thursday 20th April.
    • New Forest Centre in Lyndhurst is holding Family Discovery Days on 11th, 13th, 18th and 20th April from 10am-4pm. Easter and New Forest themed trails, quizzes and craft activities for all the family. Suitable for all ages, small charge for materials. Standard Museum entry (accompanied under 16s go free), no booking required.
    • New Forest Academy of Dance are holding a Cinderella Workshop for 4-9 year olds on 10th April and for 10+ on 11th April. 
    • Learn the moves to Zoopolis tune 'Try Everything' with Forest Arts on Thursday 20th April at their Hop Hippity Hop workshop.
    • Fairytale Forest at Lymington Library on Thursday 20th April. Singing, dance and drama. 1.30pm and 2.15pm. Booking essential.


    Films & Performances

    • The Malt Cinema at The Lymington Centre will be showing Lion (certificate PG) on Wednesday 12th at 2.30pm; Sing (certificate U) on Monday 10th, Tuesday 11th and Thursday 13th at 2.30pm and Beauty and the Beast (certificate PG) on Saturday 15th, Tuesday 18th and Thursday 20th at 2.30pm. Some evening showings also, check website for full details.
    • Zootropolis is showing at Forest Arts in New Milton on Thursday 20th April at 10am and 3.30pm.
    • For ballet lovers, the Malt Cinema is showing a live performance from the Royal Opera of Jewels on Tuesday 11th April at 7.15pm.
    • Monday's Child is being performed at Forest Arts on Friday 21st April at 2.30pm and is suitable for children aged 4+


    Family activity days

    • Family Adventure Day New Forest ActivitiesNew Forest Activities have a Woodland Adventure Day on Sunday 9th April. Enjoy lighting a fire and building your shelter, before testing your aim with a bow. In the afternoon you'll explore some of our woodland challenges before taking to the trees for your high ropes adventure. Booking essential.
    • Paddle to Hurst Castle with the New Forest Paddle Sport Company. The tour starts from Keyhaven and involves approximately two hours Stand Up Paddle Boarding or Kayaking through the beautiful salt marshes to Hurst Castle. You don't need any previous paddling experence as all tuition is given on the day. Every Friday and Saturday. Booking essential.
    • Hunt for Easter Eggs by canoe along the beautiful Beaulieu River on Easter Monday 17th April with New Forest Activities. Booking essential.
    • Combine kayaking and cycling on a Family Adventure Day with New Forest Activities. Cycle in the New Forest and kayak along the Beaulieu River. Booking essential. 7th, 8th, 9th, 11th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 18th, 20th, 22nd, 23rd April.
    • The Countryside Education Trust in Beaulieu are holding a Family Bushcraft Day at the Treehouse centre on 11th April. Spend a day in the woods with your family getting back to basics and appreciating nature in beautiful surroundings.
    • Try stand up paddle boarding - every day during the school holidays with the New Forest Paddle Sport Company. 1 Hour taster sessions for £10 per person at the safe and calm Keyhaven harbour. 
    • Try orienteering at Moors Valley Country Park on Saturday 8th April. A relaxed and enjoyable introduction to map reading and the sport of orienteering. From 1:30pm to 3:00pm, £2.50 per person, for adults and accompanied children 10 years+


    Discover nature

Throughout the school holidays, go on a nature treasure trail, plant your own cress, see a giant griffin tree carving and enjoy animal-themed face painting. Don't forget to look out for Mr Nature Detective as he drives around the grounds in his Jeep.
    • Join the Potting Shed Club at Fairweather's Patricks Patch. Once a month from March to October on Saturday mornings 10am – 11.30am. Booking essential. Saturday 8th April.
    • Try the Easter Trail at Furzey Gardens in Minstead, explore the secrets of the gardens and receive an Easter treat if you complete it successfully.
    • Discover Spring in the Walled Garden at Priestlands. Experience feeding the lambs, looking after the goats and ducks and help out in the wonderful walled garden.
    • The New Forest Reptile Centre is now open for the summer season 10am - 4.30pm daily. Discover more about British reptiles and New Forest Reptile Centreamphibians and how they are being conserved in the New Forest. Specially created display enclosures allow you to study these animals in close-up. The only collection of all the native lizards, snakes, frogs and toads, including Britain's only venomous snake - the adder - and rarest lizard - the sand lizard. On 'Wild Wednesday 12th and 19th April there will be a quiz trail and making activities.
    • Be a Gruffalo Spotter at Bolderwood! Bring the Gruffalo and other characters to life with a brand new Gruffalo Spotters trail and exciting augmented reality app. Throughout the school holidays. Dogs welcome if on a lead.
    • Bolderwood Eggtravaganza! Explore the newly refurbished information unit, meet the Rangers and celebrate Bolderwood and the Deer that live here. Take part in the Easter Trail - if you manage to solve all the clues you can claim your chocolate egg prize.
    • easter8Learn all about New Forest ponies at Wild about Ponies on Thursday 20th April 1-2pm at Deerleap.
    • Families with younger children will enjoy the Easter Toddle at Blackwater Arboretum on Tuesday 18th April from 10am - 1pm.
    • Try the Easter Trail at Moors Valley Country Park. Go on a hunt through the forest looking for Easter Egg clues high in the trees. Throughout the school holidays. Dogs welcome if on a lead.
    • Lepe Country Park has an Easter trail throughout the school holidays. Pick up a trail card from the park office and return with the correct answers to claim your prize.
    • Pond dipping at Moors Valley Country Park. From 10:00am to 12:00pm, £2.00 per child. All ages welcome, children must be accompanied.
    • Take a walk on the wild side at the Wild Play Wander at Lepe Country Park on Monday 10th April.


    Family fun with the dog

    • Dog owners might also be interested in the Walkies Workshop at Deerleep Car Park on Friday 21st April. Come and join in dog friendly activities including temptation, dog on lead, close-up alley and weave poles, all whilst learning some tips on being a forest friendly dog owner. 10am-12pm. Free.
    • Doggie Fun Day at Lepe Country Park on Saturday 8th April. Come along with your canine friends for a day that's all about them! Try the agility course and test out distraction alley and advice from a Ranger.


    Sports and activities in and around Lymington

    • Ballard School Easter Sports Camp is running from Monday 10th to Thursday 13th April. Children aged 3 to 9 years 9am-12noon: soccer, gymnastics and fun games. Children aged 10-14: hockey, volleyball, netball and other fun activities from 9am-4pm.
    • Kids Cardio Tennis - every Saturday 12.00-12.45pm at Lymington Tennis Club. £3 per child per session.
    • Lymington Tennis Club are holding tennis and fun sports camps every day from Monday 10th to Thursday 13th April and Tuesday 18th to Friday 21st April. 8.45am-4pm. 
    • New Forest Hockey Club are running a hockey camp on Monday 10th, Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th April on the astroturf at Lymington Health & Leisure. 9am-3.30pm for ages 7-15.
    • Have a go at archery at Moors Valley Country Park on selected dates throughout the holidays from 12.00-4.00pm.


    Activity days near Lymington for children

    • Calshot have a range of Activity Days for the holidays - choose from skiing, snowboarding, track cycling, canoeing, archery, climbing, skiing and windsurfing - and much more! 
    • Hengistbury Outdoor Centre have a range of multi-activity days and watersports courses available.
    • Avon Tyrrell have fun days and half-days for children aged 5+. 


    More Family Fun

    • easter2The Royal Oak in Downtown have a Family Easter Fun day on Saturday 15th April, starting with breakfast. Bouncy castle and Easter egg hunt. 
    • Easter Fair at Foxlease on Sunday 16th April from 10am-4pm. Activities, crafts, food and drink and an egg-cellent Easter egg hunt!
    • Community picnic and family fun day at Brockenhurst College on Friday 21st April.  From 11am–3pm: sporting activities, arts and crafts, Easter egg hunt and refreshments. Raising funds for equipment and facilities to support students with disabilities and learning difficulties.

    Family things to do over the summer holidaysLast week we published our Summer Events in Lymington and the New Forest, with details of all the main events happening in July and August. There are lots of other exciting things happening in Lymington, the New Forest and surrounding areas over the school summer holidays, for visitors and locals.

    Here is a roundup of 'things to do' for families and children in and around Lymington and the New Forest. Take a look also at our fun days out feature if you're looking to venture slightly further afield.     Things to do on the water...

    • The Lymington Sea Water Baths are open throughout the school holidays from 10am to 6pm each day, whatever the weather. Inflatables, zorbs and SUPs are waiting... great fun, whatever the weather - and let's face it, once you're wetsuited up and in the water the rain doesn't matter! Snacks available
    • lymington sea water baths is now open for the summer season!Elmers Court also has an outside pool, open daily for non members as well as members and guests at the hotel from 10am to 8pm. Cold drinks and snacks are available to purchase either from the snack shack near the poolside or the Scottish Steak Club which is a short walk away.
    • Kayak or paddle board with the New Forest Paddle Sport Company at Keyhaven near Milford on Sea. A great family activity - SUP taster sessions and kayak taster sessions, as well as tours to Hurst Castle along the beautiful Keyhaven coastline. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
    • New Forest Activities offers kayaking and canoeing on the Beaulieu River and throughout the summer combine kayaking with cycling in the New Forest for Family Adventure Days.

    • Pick your own strawberries at Goodall's Farm! And whilst you're there, try out the New Adventure Golf next door!
    • At Lymington Library, Rhyme Time continues throughout the holidays every Tuesday 2-2.30pm and every Wednesday 11-11.30am for children aged 0-4 with their parents/carers. The Construction Club also continues through the holidays 2.30-4pm every Saturday. All these events are free of charge.

    • The New Forest & Hampshire County Show will be taking place on 25th, 26th and 27th July at New Park in Brockenhurst. There is 15% off tickets purchased online before 18th July and 5% off tickets purchased online thereafter. Frequent direct shuttle buses will be running between Brockenhurst Station direct to the heart of the Show (free for advanced ticket holders, otherwise £3 for adult return/£2 for child return).
    • The New Forest Tour buses are back in operation until 11th September, with three routes again this year. Two of the routes stop in Lymington: the green route (Lymington, Beaulieu, Exbury, Hythe, Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst) and the blue route (Lymington, Brockenhurst, Burley, New Milton, Barton on Sea, Milford on Sea).
    • It's Wild Wednesday at the New Forest Reptile Centre every Wednesday in August, with fun activities for the whole family. Quiz trail and ‘making’ activities for children. Come and see the ‘live’ bird on the nest and the reptiles and amphibians. Wear suitable outdoor clothing and footwear. Booking is not required.
    • New Forest Centre in Lyndhurst is holding Family Discovery Days on various dates throughout the school holiday (check link for dates). New Forest themed trails, quizzes and craft activities for all the family. Suitable for all ages, small charge for materials. Standard Museum entry (accompanied under 16s go free), no booking required.
    • At Bolderwood from 29th July to 3th September, be a Gruffalo Spotter! £3 per pack, dogs welcome on leads. There is also a downloadable app. Whilst you're there, cross over the road and see if any deer can be spotted in the Deer Sanctury. A lovely walk on forest paths.
    • Also at Bolderwood on 1st, 15th and 29th August, Rock up and explore the New Forest with a volunteer ranger. Rock up and explore at Blackwater on 8th and 22nd August.
    • If you're wild about ponies, find out more at Bolderwood on 3rd and 24th August at Bolderwood and on 17th August at Hatchet Pond.
    • Big Owls, for 4-6 year olds will be taking place on 28th July at Home Farm: a morning of plant themed fun and games at the Farm. 
    • At Lepe Country Park there is a summer holiday trail available every day throughout the holidays. Plus Marine Wonders on 8th and 9th August, Seashore discovery trail on 3rd August, Nature Detectives on 1st and 17th August, Bat Walks on 23rd and 24th August. There is also a beach clean up day at Lepe on 3rd September.

    • Head to Beaulieu for a fun-filled family day out this summer, as a fascinating programme of living history brings Beaulieu to life with the sights and sounds of the past this Summer from 22nd July to 3rd September. Transport yourself back to the middle ages and meet Brother Peter in the Beaulieu Abbey! Falconry demonstrations, discover what life was like in the 1800s and enjoy Victorian music in Palace House. See veteran and vintage cars driving around with occupants in period costumes. All included in the general admission ticket which includes the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu Abbey, Palace House and World of Top Gear.

    Lymington.com top tip!Save money by buying your tickets for Beaulieu online in advance. You can visit again for free within 6 days (there's so much to do, you'll have great fun twice!)

    • Just down the road from Beaulieu is Bucklers Hard. Discover the Maritime Museum and Bucklers Hard story, brought to life by living history characters.
