Lymington Junior Regatta Week

Junior Regatta is a five day sailing event from Monday 5th August to Friday 9th August 2019 for young sailors aged 8 – 18 years.

The event is available for all children who have participated in Wednesday Junior Sailing in 2019 at Royal Lymington Yacht Club (Find out more about Wednesday Junior Sailing here) and for members of Royal Lymington Yacht Club.

Competitor Registration will take place between 9am - 12 Noon on Sunday (4th).

Registration for all WJS entries will be on 31st July during the last WJS session before the regatta.

Racing will start on Monday (5th) and run through until the end of Thursday (8th). On Wednesday there will be a "Swallows and Amazons" Passage Race to the Isle of Wight, with a Picnic on the beach for all fleets, and Friday will be a day of fun and games.

Please note: The age limit for the Gold Fleet is under 19 on the first day of the Regatta, and for all other fleets the age limit is under 17 on the first day of the Regatta.

We have enhanced the racing format this year to include competitors of all abilities. Gold Fleet Race Officer Malcolm McKeag and Silver Fleet RO John Whyte will both continue to deliver First Class competitive racing in the Solent for Optimists (Silver). Our Junior Regatta has a reputation for its excellent racing amongst those at Championship and World level and this year they will continue to be challenged. Younger competitors in the Scow and Bronze Fleets will enjoy increased coaching on the water by qualified instructors to boost their confidence, which in turn will improve their sailing skills in race conditions. There will be lots more fun and games for these Sailors, as well as practical advice in a relaxed 'classroom environment', on understanding such things as the weather, wind and tides, especially when it comes to start lines and heading for the Windward mark.
*** Hoodies will be available to order with your entry - don't miss out! ***

What do I need to do if I do not have my own boat?
Places will be available in WJS Teras and Optimists for the event for children who regularly sail with the WJS scheme and for some visitors. From the 5th July you will be able to confirm your interest in joining the Regatta at WJS. To qualify for a WJS scow, both helms and crews must have attended WJS for at least 5 sessions during the season. All scows in the WJS Scow Flee must have a crew of 3 people and must NOT be helmed by a person  who is, or has been a helm of an RYA National Intermediate, Junior or Youth squad boat. A dinghy place will be allocated depending on the level of the child’s experience and you will be asked to fill in the appropriate entry form (yellow forms for helms and pink forms for crews) and pay your fee of £100 for the week.

WJS Boat Deposit fee.
In addition to the entry fee, a cheque for £50 will be required as a damage deposit for WJS Optimists, Scows, RS Teras, RS Fevas and RS Visions. The cheque will be held until the boat has been checked at the end of the week for any major damage. Normal wear and tear is excluded.

What kind of dinghies sail?
There will be four fleets:

Bronze Fleet:
Both a racing and an instruction fleet for beginner Optimist sailors.

Silver Fleet:
Less experienced helms in both Optimists and RS Teras.

Gold Fleet:
RS Tera Pro, Advanced Optimists, Laser 4.7, Laser Radials, RS Fevas, Cadets, RS Visions, 420, 29ers, PYS – Single Hander & PYS – Double hander.
