The Town Council had been corresponding with various parties in a bid to obtain a replacement New Zealand ‘peace celebrations’ flag. This was originally presented to Lymington by departing soldiers in February 1919 to commemorate peace and the end of WW1. Unfortunately the flag appeared to no longer exist.
Mayor Anne Corbridge was formally presented a replacement New Zealand peace flag by a senior New Zealand High Commission representative on 28 April 2019 in Brockenhurst at the ANZAC service.
This replacement flag will be formally welcomed back to the people of Lymington in a service at St Thomas Church on Sunday 30 June 2019. The flag will stay entrusted to St Thomas Church, making appearances with other standards which are brought out each November to hang in the church and put away safely each February.
