Welcome the Ocean Brothers home to Lymington in style!

Jude and Greg to row home to Lymington followed by flotilla of boats on Good Friday

Guinness World Record Breaking Jude Massey and Greg Bailey - the Ocean Brothers - will be rowing home to Lymington on Good Friday, 30th March 2018. They will be followed down the Lymington River by a flotilla of boats, celebrating their success in rowing unsupported across the Atlantic Ocean. Jude is now the youngest person to have rowed any ocean as a pair. Read more about the Ocean Brothers' row here.

The brothers rowed the Atlantic Ocean unsupported to raise money for the British Skin Foundation to fund vital skin cancer research, and in memory of Jude's father (Greg's step-father) Pete Massey, who lost his 16 year battle with skin cancer two years ago. So far the pair have raised a monumental over £93,000 and this figure is set to rocket closer to their goal of £100,000. Click here to donate.

Follow the Ocean Brothers up Lymington River

The brothers will be arriving into Southampton on P&O Cruise's Britannia on the morning of 30th March. Their boat will be lowered in to the water and they will then be accompanied up the Solent by Azara Marine.

Boats wishing to follow the Ocean Brothers up the Lymington River need to muster out of the entrance to the river, east of the Starting Platform by 2pm. Bring flags and horns to wave and celebrate! While waiting, participating boats must keep clear of the navigation channel at all times.

The Ocean Brothers will start their row up the Lymington River at 2.30pm between the outbound and inbound ferries.

  • The 2.05pm Wightlink ferry from Yarmouth will enter the mouth Lymington River at 2.25pm. The Harbour Master will then indicate to the Ocean Brothers to start following the ferry - the flotilla should then follow on behind. The ferry will briefly contribute to the festivities before progressing upstream to meet its timetable commitments, leaving the flotilla following Ocean Brothers behind. (In the event the inbound ferry is delayed, the Harbour Patrol will make the decision on whether to wait for the ferry or go ahead. This will depend on extent of any delay).
  • The flotilla should keep to the starboard side of the channel so as not to impede outbound craft.
  • The flotilla will make its way upstream to Horn Reach (Royal Lymington Yacht Club / Bath Road slipway area) where the Ocean Brothers will stop opposite the public slipway to wave at spectators on the shore. Subject to Coastguard approval they will light two hand held flares. They may briefly land on the Harbour Master pontoon to get closer to shore spectators.
  • The Wightlink ferry will depart Lymington at 3pm. Flotilla participants must keep clear while the ferry passes. Harbour Patrol launches will give direction if required.
  • The Ocean Brothers will row from the Royal Lymington Yacht Club area to Lymington Yacht Haven, where they will meet press, sponsors and other VIPs.

Come and welcome the Ocean Brothers to Lymington!

It promises to be a fantastic flotilla!

Spectators are very welcome - the more the merrier! The Ocean Brothers will be rowing as far as the Bath Road carpark, where they will pause for a while and may land briefly on the Harbour Master's pontoon before rowing slowly to Lymington Yacht Haven where press and sponsors will be awaiting them.

We recommend best viewing will be along the sea wall, next to the slipway and around the edge of the Sea Water Baths. Another good spot to view them early on would be out on the seawall nearer the mouth of the river.

The refreshments kiosk by the Sea Water Baths will be open and will have a special 'Ocean Brothers' Icecream for day - all profits will go to the Ocean Brothers' fundraising.

Remember to keep the Bath Road slipway clear at all times, in case the Lymington Lifeboat needs to launch and for other slipway users.

We will bring full details as we get them - expected time for the brothers to arrive to the Bath Road Quay area is between 2.45 and 3pm.

Parking: we recommend Bath Road carpark, Town Quay carpark or roads nearby and walk!
