Investing for the long term
New Forest independent financial advisers Station Financial consider the power of relationships
During the last few months, the biggest challenge for many has been not being able to have as much contact with friends and loved ones as they would like.
What is good to remember, though, is that despite less physical contact, these relationships that you have invested in over the years do not dwindle or die out simply because of a period of absence.
The time you invest in relationships over a long period makes them strong enough to withstand some turbulence, and I’m sure many people have experienced that feeling of meeting up with an old friend and picking up exactly where they left off because of the bond that was already formed.
Even now, despite perhaps not being able to have large gatherings or attend celebrations, you can still have contact via the phone or online, which is all valuable and all contribute to developing relationships further.
When talking about long-term commitment, money can be thought of in the same way. Saving and investment are certainly about a long-term vision rather than short-term gain, and little and often can go a long way to developing your investment portfolio or savings account.
It may be that this season it’s not possible for you to save or invest as much as you might like to due to the current climate; just as it may not be possible right now to see all of your friends and family face-to-face.
However, that doesn’t mean all you invested in pre-lockdown is lost, the money already stored away is still working for you and bearing fruit, just as the time you invested in your love ones throughout the years is still paying off today.
As part of our relationship with clients, we are committed to seeing their money grow over time, meaning we are constantly analysing existing portfolios and adjusting as necessary to make the most of the current market.
It has been great to re-open our offices and be able to welcome clients back to advise how they can make the best of their money this season. However, we understand that it is not possible, or advisable, for everyone to meet face-to-face still and so we are able to continue to make use of Telephone and Video Conferencing, such as Zoom or Skype.
At Station Financial we feel privileged to be able to develop relationships with our clients over a long period. Each of our clients is unique, with their own passions and goals and it’s a pleasure to be able to get to know them and help them achieve all they want to.
In these challenging times, when things may feel like they are on pause or that all your hard work is lost or dreams seem distant, remember that nothing is lost that was already gained.
And just as the ants store away little bits of food in the summer, despite being creatures of little strength, this is still a good time to save, even if only a little bit at a time.
