Children celebrate National Parks Week with a BBQ

Thanks to the New Forest National Park Authority and the Forestry Commission, children from the Honeypot Charity were treated to a fun-filled Saturday on the 4 August, packed with children’s games and a BBQ with local New Forest produce and scrumptious New Forest smoothies.

To celebrate National Parks Week which runs from the 30 July to 5 August 2007, the New Forest National Park Authority paid for picnic tables to be replaced at the Forestry Commission’s BBQ site at Anderwood in the National Park.

The day was full of children’s activities provided by both organisations that had the children running round learning about animal habitats, eco-systems and local wildlife.

The delicious lunch was packed full of local New Forest Marque produce that was enjoyed by children and adults alike.

Cindy Steele-Jones, Playbus Manager at the Honeypot Charity, said: ‘The children thoroughly enjoyed, and greatly benefited from their day in the forest.

All of the children were shattered at the end of the day but full of excitement when telling their stories. Thank you so much to all involved in giving our children such a fantastic day. ‘

The theme of the UK’s National Parks Week this year was nature’s natural playground, encouraging children and adults to discover and explore our National Parks.

The New Forest National Park Authority held a range of events, exploring its diverse coastal areas, beaches, bogs and heathland.
