Simon Nuding and his new found friends at the National Star College set off this morning in a race between an MD Midget and one of RIB-IT's top RIB's to raise money for The National Star College which is a College for young adults with disabilities, helping them to gain qualifications, life skills essential for maximum independence and the skills, confidence and strategies for getting a job.
In typical effervescent spirit Simon and his team were all smiles this morning and by lunchtime had already arrived alongside the Devon coastline ahead of the MG. Well done to all involved and please support one of Lymington's finest fellows whose permanent smile and generosity of spirit is legendary and much appreciated both in the community and by his Clients.
LDC would also like to tip our cap to Cllr Pauline Elsworth who is coming to the end of her Mayorship and who similarly never fails to turn up to support any event come wind or rain. A self-confessed landlubber, Cllr Ellsworth still ventured onto the pontoon to wave off the gallant teams.
THE RACE:
160 miles. One (old) Car & One Powerboat. There can be only one winner........the National Star College.
PLEASE help them raise money for the Star appeal by supporting one of the teams.
ALL monies raised will go towards the National Star College’s £15.4m Star Appeal to fund the urgent improvements required for current facilities and future expansion plans. For more information on the Star Appeal please go to www.starappeal.org

Supplementary Information and Rules
This event has come about as a result of two main factors - firstly we were challenged to raise some money for the National Star College where most of us work and secondly we wanted to have some fun and, having been inspired by the Top Gear guys we came up with the idea of this challenge.
Why start at Lymington? - thats where the boat lives!!
Why finish in Looe? - If you have ever been to Looe, Cornwall, you will be well aware of its beauty, tucked into the Cornish coast just south of Plymouth, why wouldn't we want to finish is this area!? Logisitcally We need to finish in a place with a quay and access to the water for the boat. Looe was decided as an appropriate distance for the trip and convenient for both Boat team and Car team to get too.
Lastly and quite simply it begins with a *L*.
Details:
The term race associates itself with the race as to which team can raise the most money between now and May 10th.
The winner of this event can only be the National Star College, as every penny donated by yourselves will go directly towards the developments as laid out on the star appeal website.
We will of course be travelling from Lymington to Looe and there is a question as to which team will get there first, but we are not racing there, only traveling at what will be considered safe speeds under the conditions.
On paper both teams have the potential to arrive at looe at similar times but it will largely depend on a whole collection of variables.
Teams will be camping on both the Friday and Saturday evenings.
