The New Forest National Park Authority Tree Officer, Bryan Wilson will be revealing the secrets of New Forest trees in two specially designed events this spring.
‘The life of trees’ on Saturday 15 March from 10am-12noon, will involve taking a leisurely stroll around Brockenhurst and learning about the New Forest’s ancient woodland. During the walk there will be an opportunity to collect twigs and buds which Bryan will help identify. The event starts and finishes at Brockenhurst church hall.
On Thursday 27 March from 7:30pm to 9:30pm, Bryan will be joined by Hugh Milner from the Forestry Commission in the lecture theatre at the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu to talk about ‘Our ancient woods and trees.’ They will be discussing ancient trees that live in the New Forest such as the Knightwood Oak and the 1,000 year old Brockenhurst churchyard Yew.
Bryan Wilson, National Park Authority Tree Officer, said: ‘These walks and talks are proving to be extremely popular, they are aimed at anyone keen to learn more about the trees in the New Forest National Park, no matter what their level of knowledge is. We are fortunate enough to be spoilt with so many areas of ancient woodland that provide a living link with the past and offer a vital habitat to some of our rarer native plant species.
‘A lot of vigilance and hard work from many different organisations and enthusiastic individuals goes into protecting our ancient woodland. These events are an opportunity to celebrate our achievements.’
