Airline lays on extra flights for matches against Sunderland and Hull

Flybe, Europe’s third largest low cost airline, today announces that it is to schedule extra flights for the Coca Cola Championship matches at Sunderland and Hull. The move means that avid Saints’ fans will be able to see these away games that normally require a long and arduous drive or train journey.

The match against Sunderland promises to be an important fixture in Southampton’s bid for promotion this season. Flights will leave Southampton at 10.00 on the 11th November, and will return the same day at 20.00. Prices start from £49.99 each way including taxes and flight time will be approximately 80 minutes for each leg.

With Hull proving their mettle in the Championship last season following promotion from League 1, the Humberside fixture is shaping up to be stern test for the Saints. The specially laid on flight will leave Southampton at 10.00 on the 2nd December and return the same evening at 20.00; flight time is approximately 80 minutes each way.

Travelling by train to Sunderland involves making a 5 or 6 hour train journey and having to change train a number of times; driving up could take up to six hours, not accounting for bad traffic. A similar journey to Hull would take approximately five hours on the train and just over 4 hours by car, highlighting how the flights will shave off a huge amount of time and hassle for fans wanting to catch the games.

The airline will also be flying the first team to and from both games. For the Sunderland game the team will depart Southampton International Airport at 13.00 on the 10th November and will make their return on the 11th, departing at 20.30. For the Hull City match, the team will leave Southampton at 13.20 on the 1st December, and will depart Humberside Airport at 20.30 on the 2nd.
