The New Forest Plonkers Christmas Song

The New Forest Plonkers are now having their Christmas Song, The Best Gift of All, played on Radio Solent on the Julian Clegg early morning show.

Last week Julian Clegg asked for local artists to send in a Christmas Song for them to play on the programme.

Luckily, the band was well prepared to answer the radio’s request. Last year Bill Walker and The New Forest Plonkers, backed by members of the Walhampton School Choir, recorded a special Christmas song, so they sent this in to them for their consideration.

Much to their delight they played this during their early morning show, and have put it on their website for all to hear. They have now played it several times and are getting very complimentary feedback from the audience.

It has also been put on the Radio Solent website so that anyone who would like to hear it can simply click on the Julian Clegg picture to be taken to Christmas Songs. The Best Gift of All is in the Hampshire Songs section.

Last year, just before Christmas, Bill Walker, The New Forest Plonkers’ vocalist, entertained a packed hall at the Hordle & Walhampton School Christmas concert, with the new Christmas song.

Bill is the writer of the song and was delighted to be invited to be part of their Christmas concert. The school’s “Choir of Angels”, who made a special guest appearance on the CD, backed him.  At the school they are know as “The Plonkettes!!”

The school had kindly agreed to allow the band to use some children from their choir and record the tracks needed for the CD in their splendid hall.  Bill went along with his guitar and keyboard so they could sing along with him and the recording was great success.  The affect on the finished CD was delightful.
