LAUNCH OF THE NEW FOREST CARBON FOOTPRINT PROJECT


The New Forest Carbon Footprint Project, an innovative community based project aimed at raising awareness about climate change and its potential impact on the New Forest, will be launched in Brockenhurst in September. There will be three launch events followed by a series of lively, visible and varied events within Brockenhurst. It is anticipated that the project will involve all sectors of the community, adults and children
alike, and enable Brockenhurst to take the lead in the New Forest, in responding to climate change. The project if part-financed by the New Forest National Park Authority’s Sustainable Development Fund and is being managed by New Forest Friends of the Earth.
 

LAUNCH EVENTS

Launch evening
Monday 17th September, 7:30-9:30pm
Brockenhurst village hall
Launch evening for invited guests from community groups, churches, the Parish Council, education and voluntary sector.
Speakers to include:

  • Paul de Zylva, the chairperson of Friends of the Earth, England
  • Clive Chatters the chairman of the New Forest National Park Authority  

Launch party
Saturday 22nd September, 12:00-4:00pm
Brockenhurst village hall

  • Charlie Dimmock of Ground Force will be joining in the activities, greeting people and handing out competition prizes.
  • Information stands about the New Forest, climate change and carbon reduction.
  • Children’s events including juggling, poi and craft workshops, an active, participatory drama and procession, face painting, parachute games and hedgehogs.
  • Speakers from the Christian Aid ‘Cut the Carbon’ march
  • Videos
  • Competitions and quizzes including fruit and veg competitions
  • Refreshments

Low carbon trade fare
Saturday 29th September 2:30-5:30pm
Brockenhurst village hall

  • Information stalls on low carbon living, measuring and reducing household carbon emissions
  • Local and organic produce, including wine tasting
  • Demonstration of electric car
  • Talk by Mukti Mitchell, who is sailing around Britain in a zero-emissions micro yacht 4:00-4:30

The publicity posters for the launch Party and Low carbon trade fare are attached as is a list of the on –going events planned so far. It is anticipated that there will be additional events for children and young people and more detailed information will be made available nearer the date of each event.
