Exbury is at its colourful summer best with bright herbaceous borders, a sizzling exotic garden, swathes of hydrangeas and restful lemon and blue plants in the Tennis Court Tea Rooms.
“Visitors love to come to Exbury when the rhododendrons are out, but they don’t always know about the colourful summer plantings, says head gardener John Anderson.
“The herbaceous borders have never looked so good – they’re full of lilies, day lilies, dahlias and bright red crocosmia, while the exotic Sundial Garden has cannas, salvias and even bananas,” he said. Nearby the cool elegant lemon yellow and blue plantings in the tea rooms make a restful contrast.
The new hydrangea walk is in full bloom while those who make the trip on the Garden Railway will see the flourishing pumpkin patch where 700 pumpkins and squashes are fattening up in time for Hallowe’en. “Visitors will also see for the first time this year the new Exotic Fruit Garden with loquats, medlars and pineapple guavas,” said John. “Combine all this with the summer trail which takes you to some amazing trees and you’ve got an exciting day out.”
Exbury’s Maize Maze just across the road is offering a combined entry ticket with the gardens.
Exbury Gardens are open daily until 11 November from 10am-5.30pm (or dusk in November). For more details please visit www.exbury.co.uk or telephone 023 8089 1203.
