Julia's Fashion Column - Mini or Maxi?
Mini/ Maxi? - Julia's fashion fix for July 2007!

At last the sun shine arrived after gloomy skies of June. We are so desperate for some heat to dress up in those gorgeous frocks and linens that we bought back in April!!
The question is should we be wearing the mini or the maxi? Early in the spring all the glossies magazines featured the return of the mini, we had girls coming into our store panicking about getting their legs in shape for the exposure, panic not ladies, an amazing about turn has happened the maxi dress is back!!
I cautiously bought several maxi dresses for spring 2007 when in the London showrooms, but it was when I went to Paris to buy I was looked upon in amazement in picking a mini over a maxi so I thought lets go with it bought the maxi dresses and waited in anticipation to see the customers reaction when they arrived. All I can say is that our customers are a head of the game…..we have sold out!!
San Francisco hippy flowers, geometric prints all echo the look of the 60`s and 70`s, we have floor sweeping kaftans and a smock top version for the smaller frame halter necks are big this season and also the bikini bodice are great. The most amazing thing about these dresses is that everyone who has bought one from the store is that felt so comfortable. The maxi trend is continuing through to the autumn with casual looks from Velvet the great American casual label from LA. Alice Temperley has as ever the last word in glamorous carpet grazing frocks the best shown at her cat walk show in cobalt blue and cream. To see the Temperley cat walk show CLICK HERE.
Still ahead of the autumn we hopefully a long hot summer and once again white is the seasons coolest colour. Wear it in the most casual way with a relaxed linen pant and a waist coat to the prettiest of dresses in lace and chiffon. White tops always look good with a pair of jeans as does a white t/shirt with the trend towards a looser longer look which is very flattering for larger frames. Avoid wearing all white from head to toe unless you are bronzed and in an exotic location or you will look like you work in a dentist.
Finally a note on accessories, this seasons must have is a pair of ballet pumps, great value in stock at Neat on the high street or indulge yourself in the ultimate crystal incrusted gold slippers from Giuseppe Zanotti available at Selfridges . Also true induldance in foot wear Roger Vivier buckle pumps in patent “tres chic” available from there store on Sloane Street.
The bag of the season but not yet in the shops wait for the much converted designed by Kate moss for French brand longchamp, Kate moss is in her third season working with the luxury French brand and inspired there latest bag appropriately called “Legend”. The over sized tote retails at £480 with a red lining and zipped pockets is bound to be a design classic available from Stanwells from September, limited stocks so do hurry.
