Making Lymington A Better Place..Do you know who the Lymington Lions are and what they do?

….The Lymington Lions is a voluntary group who are part of an international organisation.  They offer the community a service with special care programmes, social fundraising events and supporting those in need.  The international care focuses on special areas such as helping those with sight difficulties.

The Lions meet together once a month at Elmers Court where they discuss fundraising projects and event planning for the socialable committee members.

They formed in May 1989 and have continued to manage wonderful events for the Lymington community such as the Lymington & Pennington Carnival.  They also are responsible for the Brockenhurst Summer Fare and Easter Egg Lottery plus Christmas Collections.

When asked what the best event has been the committee confirmed that the Brockenhurst Summer Fate is always a pleasure to manage. “It’s hard work” says Lions member Lynne Sharpe “but the support the community offers is fantastic, we have a wonderful turn out and it has the best tea tent in Hampshire!”.

Every penny raised is used to improve lives and the community.

The Lions also enjoy their yearly presentation where they explain how much money had been raised in that year and how it has been allocated.

Future events for the Lions are the carnival on Saturday 14th July.  The theme is the movie magic of the Oscars and they have teamed up with a young promotion company Strawberry Fields Presents to make this year bigger and better then ever.

Ian Duncan is the project leader and explains, “Already 2007 is looking good, and with many walking and float entries the procession will be quite colourful and enjoyable for all onlookers”.

The Lymington Lions give an amazing amount of effort to make the carnival happen by managing all requirements from road closures, looking after the entries, organising the committee of helpers, sorting the police and council contributions and distributing the net proceeds in to the community.

The carnival is such a wonderful event for the area and can only happen with support from the community.
