Local organisations needed to give the New Forest a spring clean

Local organisations needed to give the New Forest a spring clean

For the second year in a row, Forest Force is launching its annual litter pick and needs your help.

Forest Force is a partnership made up of the Forestry Commission, the New Forest National Park Authority and New Forest District Council.

We are looking for organisations such as businesses, parish councils, youth groups and rotary clubs to volunteer their time to participate in litter picks during this week-long annual litter pick event from 1 to 9 March, 2008.

Last years, 25 groups helped with litter picks, alongside staff from the New Forest National Park Authority, the Forestry Commission and New Forest District Council. We are grateful for all their help but are now looking for more groups to help cover the following areas; Ringwood (Blashford Lakes, Rockford, Hightown and Kingston), Lymington (including Boldre, Pilley and Pennington), and around Beaulieu, Marchwood, Totton, Plaitford and West Wellow.

Vicky Myers, Volunteer Co-ordinator at the Forestry Commission, said: ‘Last year was a great success, a 143 bags of litter were collected during ‘Forest Force’ week.  We have now identified areas that weren’t covered last year and would like to encourage local organisations and New Forest residents to volunteer their time to help clean-up the Forest.’

‘Together with the New Forest District Council we work hard throughout the year collecting litter to keep the Forest clean; we clean car parks and road edges as often as we can. However, we want to give the Forest its annual spring clean and are looking for volunteers to help.’

If you are part of an organisation who is interested in taking part contact Roger Sired at New Forest District Council on 023 8028 5948 or email roger.sired@nfdc.gov.uk. Volunteers will be sent a map of areas to choose the location of their litter pick.

A series of public litter picks will also be held during the week; if you are interested in getting involved contact Alexis Reeve at the Forestry Commission on 023 8028 6840 or email alexis.reeve@forestry.gsi.co.uk

Come and join the Forest Force and keep your forest clean!  Every year individuals, groups and businesses combine in a massive effort to litter pick every corner of the National Park.

Please note that:
•    All litter picks start at 10am and will finish by 12.30pm.
